Pensare in grande spazi piccoli

by Anna Piussi

It’s harder to plan a small garden than a bigger one, but we can hone our skills at the Chelsea Flower show, where the Artisans garden only cover 20 to 35 square metres. The garden by Kazuyuki Ishihara packs a wide range of vegetation, an impeccably arranged miniature landscape complete with waterfall, moss garden and picturesque rocks, over a garage which will never be soiled by motor oil or tools, a contemporary twist on Japanese gardens

Sarah Eberle tells to me that Viking Cruises sponsored her “Mekong garden” on condition she take a a few weeks cruise down the Mekong river. Who could resist? The small space is taken over by a water feature with a boat on it, surrounded by floating islands of vegetation. Instead of choosing tropical species she relied on plants which can be grown in the UK, mixing edible plant such as corn and courgettes with ornamental plants, overshadowed by the irregular shape of Rhus typhina.
