Garden complex – Anna Piussi and Stefano Passerotti tell us about their garden at the Chelsea Flower Show.

Anna: it takes months to design, implement and build the garden, and then years for it to grow. There are no passing fashions in garden but a gradual development of new concepts. Piet Oudolf, one of the greatest designers of our time, redefined the beauty of the garden to allow for this evolution, the marking of seasonal change. Modern design in more dynamic, asymmetric, in contrast to the static symmetry of the past.

I have taught in the History of Gardens in Oxford, Florence and New York. Local gardens, landscapes and museums are an integral part of my classes from the formal historical gardens around Florence to the international inspirations that can be found in NYC, and my students’ viewpoint has always taught me a lot.

Stefano: Right now there is a greater interest in recycled materials and sustainable planting. In Switzerland I have seen a developing sensitivity to nature, and the development of gardens which are bio-ecologically correct, in keeping with local vegetation. Contemporary garden ideas, like green walls, are both ecological and visually pleasing . In Sound Gardens plants, architectural elements, design, sound and light fuse together for a unique atmosphere. Our Sonic Pangea garden is an experience which touches all the senses, with exciting scents, sounds, and taste, a tactile garden which envelops you.
